What We Can & Can’t Take (2025 Guide) — Waste Removal in Central Scotland

Quick take

We collect most household, garden and commercial waste across Central Scotland with a recycling-first approach. A few items are restricted by law—below is a clear list plus safe disposal routes.

What we can take

  • Household items: sofas, beds, mattresses*, wardrobes, tables, chairs, carpets, rugs, curtains
  • Appliances (WEEE): washing machines, cookers, tumble dryers, dishwashers, microwaves*
  • Electronics: TVs, monitors, small electricals and cables
  • General rubbish: black bags, mixed household waste, loft/garage clear-outs
  • Garden waste: branches, hedge trimmings, leaves, soil (bagged), timber and sheds (dismantled)
  • DIY/renovation debris: tiles, plasterboard*, bathroom suites, kitchen units, doors, skirting, flooring
  • Office/retail clearances: desks, filing cabinets, shelving, stock, packaging

*Some items carry a recycling surcharge at the transfer station (e.g. mattresses, fridges/freezers, TVs/monitors, plasterboard). We’ll confirm this in your fixed quote.

Items we can’t take (and what to do instead)

  • Asbestos → Contact licensed asbestos contractors or your council’s specialist service.
  • Chemicals & paints (liquid), solvents, oils → Local HWRC (household waste recycling centre) hazardous bay or specialist collections.
  • Gas cylinders & fire extinguishers → Return to supplier or specialist recovery points.
  • Clinical/medical waste & sharps → NHS/council clinical waste services.
  • Explosives, ammunition, pyrotechnics → Police or specialist disposal.
  • Large quantities of rubble/soil without bagging → Best via skip hire or tonne bags.

How to prepare for faster (and cheaper) collection

  1. Group items in one area if possible.
  2. Bag loose waste (rubble/soil in sturdy bags).
  3. Reserve parking near the entrance.
  4. Dismantle flat-pack furniture that won’t fit through doors.
  5. Tell us about access (stairs, long carries, time restrictions).
